South African Founder Builds LGBTQ Apparel Brand From Chicago

//

CHICAGO, IL, May 11, 2026 — Vivid Volt, a custom embroidered denim brand built for LGBTQ celebration culture, is run by a founder who was born and raised in South Africa before spending many years in the UK running a web design and recruitment business.

After a career shift roughly three years ago, the founder moved into e-commerce, living in New York and Chicago while building out the business. For the past two years, she has split her time between Barcelona and Chicago, growing the company's presence across Europe alongside its US operations.

Founded to serve an audience the founder felt was underserved by mainstream apparel and gifting brands, Vivid Volt focuses specifically on bachelorette parties, Pride celebrations, gay cruises, and nightlife events, categories the founder says are often treated as an afterthought by larger retailers.

The brand operates with a small remote team spanning multiple countries, sourcing production internationally while managing design, marketing, and partnerships from Chicago.

"I wanted to build something specifically for this community, not something adapted from a general product line," said Victoria Nupen, founder of Vivid Volt. "That focus is the whole point."

Vivid Volt has grown its product line, wholesale program, and creator partnerships since launch, with plans to expand further into venue and cruise partnerships in 2026, including the upcoming launch of its new signature jeans, the Easy Access Club range. The team is excited for what the rest of the year has in store.
